Who is this guy, anyway?
Performer. Educator. Advocate.
Oboist and English hornist Nicholas Tisherman was born in New York and received diplomas from the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division and the New England Conservatory of Music.
Nicholas served as Second and Assistant Principal Oboe of Denver’s Colorado Symphony from 2017 to 2025, and has been a guest with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. Currently residing in New Zealand, he was appointed Principal Cor Anglais of the Auckland Philharmonia in 2025.
Nicholas has appeared in the orchestras of the Grand Teton, Verbier, Brevard, and Tanglewood festivals, and represented the United States on the Orchestra of the Americas’ first-ever European tour around the countries of the Baltic Sea.
A sucker for endless oboe repertoire from the Baroque era, Nick has performed as soloist with New England Conservatory’s Bach Ensemble, Boulder Bach Festival, Breckenridge International Festival of the Arts, and most memorably with the Colorado Symphony in Bach’s Double Concerto BWV 1060 alongside mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital.
As an educator, Nick loves connecting with audiences in pre-concert lectures and is committed to fostering young musicians in his private studio. He has served on faculty at the Round Top Music Festival in Texas, and has given master classes at universities throughout the United States.
