Oboist and English hornist Nicholas Tisherman was born in New York and received diplomas from the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division and the New England Conservatory of Music.

Obsessed with the endless oboe repertoire from the Baroque era, Nick has performed the concerti of Bach and beyond as soloist with New England Conservatory’s Bach Ensemble, Boulder Bach Festival, Breckenridge International Festival of the Arts, and most memorably with the Colorado Symphony in Bach’s Double Concerto BWV 1060 alongside mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital.

Nicholas has appeared in the orchestras of the Grand Teton, Verbier, Brevard, and Tanglewood festivals, and represented the United States on the Orchestra of the Americas’ first-ever European tour around the countries of the Baltic Sea.

A passionate educator, Nick is known for giving acclaimed lectures to audiences and other educators. He is committed to fostering young musicians in his private studios, and regularly runs the gamut from early childhood music classes to coaching sessions with pre-professionals. He has served on faculty at the Round Top Music Festival in Texas and has given master classes at universities throughout the United States.

Nick’s versatility and demand across the classical music world is best highlighted by his offerings at conferences of the International Double Reed Society where he has been seen as lecturer on pedagogy, in chamber recitals, and premiering a commission for solo oboe by Boston-based composer Lavell Blackwell.

Nicholas Tisherman served as Second and Assistant Principal Oboe of Denver’s Colorado Symphony from 2017 to 2025, and has been a guest with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. He was appointed Principal Cor Anglais of the Auckland Philharmonia in 2025, and currently resides in New Zealand with his partner, a choral soprano.
